A jeep safari takes a couple of hours. The rest of the day is yours.
This guide covers the best things to do around Kaziranga between safaris. It ends with one add-on we are careful with right now.
Kakochang Falls and the ruins
Kakochang Falls is about 13 km from Bokakhat. Assam Tourism places it near the old ruins at Deoparbat, by Numaligarh.
The two fit together in one half-day.
The falls run fullest after the rains. Wear shoes with good grip, because wet rock is slippery.
The Orchid and Biodiversity Park
The Orchid and Biodiversity Park is at Durgapur, near Kohora. It is an easy stop between a morning and an afternoon safari.
Opening hours differ between sources, so check on the day. It suits families and anyone who wants a slow afternoon.
Tea gardens
Tea gardens line parts of the highway around Kaziranga. Early light on the rows of bushes is worth a stop.
You will pass Hathikuli, an organic tea estate, on the highway. Enjoy it from the road. We have not confirmed that it runs public tours.
If you want to sleep in a garden, see our tea garden bungalow stays.
Birding at Panbari
Panbari Reserve Forest is one of the newer routes near Kaziranga. A trial opened on 2 February 2025, and the range formally opened on 24 February 2025.
It is a birding route. Go early, with binoculars and a naturalist.
Winter is the best season. December to February is the peak for migratory birds.

More new ways in
The park keeps adding options. The Biswanath division runs a jeep safari at Panpur, and a boat safari.
Kohora has cycling trails. In Karbi Anglong, there is community trekking on Hemtap Hill.
The Karbi hills
The Karbi Anglong hills rise across the highway from the park. When the floods come, animals move up to this higher ground.
A walk here gives you a different view of Kaziranga. The Hemtap Hill trek is one way in.
River dolphins at Bhomoraguri
Assam Tourism lists Bhomoraguri, on the Brahmaputra, as a place to see river dolphins.
It is a longer outing, and sightings are never certain. Ask us how it fits your route.
A note on Majuli
Majuli, the river island, is a natural add-on to Kaziranga. Right now we plan it with care.
In 2026 the Neamati ferry was suspended again and again over water levels. A suspended ferry can cost you a day.
If Majuli matters to you, check the ferry the week you travel. Keep a spare day and a plan B.
Plan it with us
Our tip: use the gap between the morning and afternoon slots. It is enough for the Orchid Park or a tea stop, and you are back in time.
Our Kaziranga Wildlife Escape includes the Orchid Park and Kakochang Falls. Rhino, Tea and the River Island adds a tea bungalow and Majuli.
See our Kaziranga page, the jeep safari guide and which range to choose.
