Shergaon is a Sherdukpen village of apple and kiwi orchards, wooden houses and a monastery, sitting off the main Tawang road and almost entirely missed by the traffic heading north. Sangti, near Dirang, is a wide river valley where black-necked cranes winter.

Both are farmstay country - home-cooked meals, a hard mattress, and total quiet. We route them as breathers on the long drive to and from Tawang, which turns the worst part of an Arunachal trip into one of the best.
