A surviving stretch of the horse-cart route David Scott cut between Assam and Bangladesh in the 1820s, now the most rewarding day hike in Meghalaya. It runs roughly 16 km from Mawphlang to Ladmawphlang through open grassland, pine, river crossings and a handful of Khasi villages.
It is a walk rather than a climb - steady rather than steep - and it takes most people five to six hours. We run it with a local guide and a vehicle waiting at the far end.
