This post gives two Bali plans, day by day. One is 6 days and 5 nights. The other is 7 days and 6 nights.
Both follow routes we sell, so what you read here is what you would get. We also show how the honeymoon version changes the stays, and how to pick between them.
How both plans work
Both plans start in Kuta, in the south, near the airport and the beaches. Both end in Ubud, in the green middle of the island. You change hotels only once.
Kuta is the base for the day trips to the south, the sea and the hills. Ubud is the base for the rice terraces and the volcano.
Each has one very long day, out to the island of Nusa Penida. The 7-day plan adds a second long day: the sunrise on Mount Batur.
On the 7-day plan, transfers are private throughout and breakfast is included from Day 2.
6 days: Day 1 and Day 2
Day 1. You land at Ngurah Rai Airport and get a flower garland welcome. A private car takes you to your hotel in Kuta. The evening is free for a walk on Kuta Beach at sunset.
Day 2. The morning is for water sports at Tanjung Benoa: a banana boat, a jet ski and a fly fish ride. In the afternoon you drive to Uluwatu Temple, on a cliff 70 metres above the sea.
You stay for the Kecak fire dance at sunset. It starts at 6 pm, and the gates open at 4 pm.
6 days: Day 3 and Day 4
Day 3. A speedboat takes you to Nusa Penida for the day. You see the cliff above Kelingking Beach, the natural pool at Angel's Billabong and the sea arch at Broken Beach.
You snorkel at Crystal Bay, and a local lunch is included.
Day 4. This is the adventure day. An ATV ride takes you through rice fields and jungle tracks, past a waterfall. After a Balinese lunch comes the Jungle Swing, out over the treetops.
6 days: Day 5 and Day 6
Day 5. You drive up to Kintamani for the view of Mount Batur, an active volcano. You stop at a coffee plantation on the way.
Then come Tegenungan Waterfall, the Tegalalang rice terraces and Ubud's art villages. You check in to Ubud for the last night.
Day 6. The morning is free. You can walk in the Monkey Forest, which opens at 9 am, or shop at the Ubud market. Then a private car takes you to the airport.
7 days: Day 1 to Day 3
Day 1. The same garland welcome and transfer to a premium hotel in Kuta. The beach and the sunset are yours.
Day 2. An afternoon on the Bukit Peninsula, about 6 hours. You see the giant Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue and swim at Padang Padang Beach. The day ends with sunset at Uluwatu Temple.
Day 3. The Nusa Penida day, about 11 hours. An early fast boat takes you across. You see Kelingking, Angel's Billabong and Broken Beach, then swim at Crystal Beach. Snorkelling is included if the tide allows, and so is lunch.
7 days: Day 4 and Day 5
Day 4. The highlands day, about 10 hours. You go up into the cool Bedugul hills to the Handara Gate. Then comes Ulun Danu Beratan, the temple on Lake Bratan, where offerings go to Dewi Danu, the lake goddess.
On the way back you stop at Tanah Lot for sunset. The temple sits on a rock in the sea, and you can only walk out to it at low tide.
Day 5. About 8 hours. You raft the Ayung River with a guide, through a jungle gorge, and lunch is included. Then comes the Jungle Swing. In the evening you move to a private-pool villa in Ubud.
7 days: Day 6 and Day 7
Day 6. The pickup is around 2 am. A 4x4 jeep takes you up Mount Batur to watch the sun rise over the crater, with a warm breakfast. It is cold at the top, so bring a jacket.
On the way back you see the Tegalalang rice terraces, about 10 km north of Ubud, and Tegenungan Waterfall. This day takes about 11 hours, so the evening is for rest.
Day 7. A slow villa breakfast, then check-out and a private car to the airport.
The honeymoon version
Our honeymoon trip runs the same 7 days. Only the stays change.
The Kuta resort serves breakfast every day, with Indian options. It also greets you with a welcome drink and a chilled towel.
The first four nights are at a 4-star resort in Kuta. The last two are in a 4-star one-bedroom pool villa at Keramas, in East Bali, instead of Ubud.
The villa adds a honeymoon cake, a rose-petal welcome, floating breakfasts and one candle-light dinner. For more on pacing a honeymoon, read planning a Bali honeymoon.
6 days or 7?
Pick 6 days if your leave is short, or if you travel with small children. It has one long day instead of two, and no 2 am start. It also has the Kecak dance and the water sports.
Pick 7 days if you want the highlands. It adds the lake temple, Tanah Lot and the Batur sunrise. It also gives you one more night, in a premium hotel in Kuta.
Either plan can bend. We can drop the Batur morning, add a free day, or swap the ATV for rafting.
What to pack for these days
A warm jacket for the Batur sunrise. It is cold at the top, even when the coast is hot.
A change of clothes and swimwear for Nusa Penida, in a bag that can get wet.
Clothes that cover shoulders and knees for temple days. Uluwatu asks for this, and hands out a sarong and sash at the gate.
A zipped bag for sunglasses, hats and phones. The monkeys at Uluwatu and in the Ubud forest grab what they can.
If you have an extra day
An eighth day is best spent in Ubud. Add a night at the villa and use it slowly.
Walk the Monkey Forest in the morning. It opens at 9 am, and the last entry is at 5 pm. Then visit the market, or do nothing at all by the pool.
Or keep it in the south, if you have children. A free beach day in Kuta before the Nusa Penida trip makes the long day easier.
We can add either one to the packages. Tell us when you ask for a price.
Dates to check first
Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, shuts the island for 24 hours, from 6 am to 6 am. Airports and ports close. You cannot check in or out of a hotel, and no tours run.
In 2027 it falls on Monday 8 March. If your dates touch it, we move the days around it.
